AudioMate

Reaching for the speakers each time the volume has to be changed can be annoying. Fortunately, modern keyboards come with volume controls and you can also find a few basic volume options in any operating system. AudioMate gives you far better controls when it comes to manipulating an audio device on a Mac. It can provide you with various notifications and it also allows you to set up automatic actions for specific devices.

You can have the application up and running in no time, especially if you are using a recent Mac OS X version. Once you run AudioMate, a new icon will show up on the status bar. Clicking this icon will reveal a menu with options for each audio device. If you plug in a new device, the application will detect it automatically and it will immediately display it on the menu, along with the same options.

Sample rates can be selected for each device separately, in drop menus. Additionally, you can replace the drop menus with sliders, if you wish to change the master volume for each device. What's more, AudioMate can automatically set a user-defined master volume, a sample rate and a clock source for a device, when it is connected. When certain events occur, like volume changes, the addition or removal of a device and so on, the application will notify you immediately.

Besides its volume and sample rate controls, the AudioMate provides a few customization options as well. You can choose what information should be displayed on the status bar icon, select different colors and enable or disable specific notifications.
